About Gunnison River Pro
Gunnison Gorge Trip Description
Days 2 – 4
Miles 14 – 20
Gunnison River Pro Service
All equipment and food that is needed for this trip will be horse packed to the Chukar put-in the day before the launch date, and will be fully assembled. The day of the launch the party will be meet at the Chukar trail head, and each member of the party will sign Release of Liability and Acknowledgement of Risk Forms. The party will sort all personal camping equipment that will be hauled down the Chuckar trial to the put in 1.4 miles. An orientation speech will be provided about the rafting equipment, camping kitchen, food location, resource regulations, boating safety, general information about the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness Area, and recommendations on camping areas. Once the boats are loaded and rigged the self-guided trip is ready for launch.
Shuttle logistics of personal vehicles will be predetermined prior to the meeting at the Chukar trail head. The options for take-out locations are what set Gunnison River Pro’s service apart from the other services that are offered in this area. It is highly recommended that the parties extend their trips to take-outs downstream of the confluence of the North Fork #1 on the Gunnison Gorge BLM map at mile 14 to either the Cottonwood Grove Campground #13 mile 16 or the Orchard Boat Ramp at mile 22. These take-out locations are much more easily accessible for Gunnison River Pro. Extending your trip to these locations will help in the congestion of the Gunnison Gorge during the high use times of the season. The lower river corridor also has beautiful locations for camping, before your trip starts, during your trip on the river, or after the trip is over.
